Care4Kidz provides financial support to families who do not qualify for public assistance but still struggle to afford quality early childhood education.
The Gap in Early Childhood Funding
In Illinois, early childhood care is a significant financial burden for many families. In cities like Evanston, the average full-time child care cost approaches $2,735 per month (or more) — expenses that often exceed 20% of household income for working parents.
Although federal and state programs exist to assist families, only about 15% of eligible families in Illinois receive help through federal childcare grants.
At the same time, licensed early learning programs can only serve a fraction of children ages 0–5 — approximately 31.7% statewide — creating both affordability and access barriers.
The Problem
Many working families earn too much to qualify for government assistance, yet not enough to afford private early childhood education. This funding gap leaves children without access to foundational learning experiences during the most critical developmental years.
